the Dave Baugh

Dave learned crew at the University of Washington, where he coxed the Huskies for four years, including their 1984 trip to the Royal Henley Regatta.  After earning his law degree at the University of Oregon, Dave began coaching at GLC with the adult program in early 1988, the first year of that group's existence.

Dave added coaching GLC juniors to his resume the following year - an coached GLC's junior women for the next nine seasons!  His girls won a national title in the eight in 1994, and numerous national gold medals in smaller boats.  Along with the countless hours at the lake, the tens of thousands of miles driving our equipment all over the country, and years of service to the Region as representative to the Junior Women's National Committee, Dave also managed to develop a healthy law practice in downtown Seattle.  David, thank you for your years of unflagging commitment to GLC!

Art and the Wright family have been mainstays of the Green Lake program since the first of the three Wright daughters (Rebecca, Sarah, and Amy) began rowing at GLC in the mid-'80's.  While Art had rowed at the Naval Academy, graduating in 1957, it took his kids to pull him out of rowing 'retirement' three decades later.

Art joined the Rowing Advisory Council soon thereafter, and served as the RAC;s "Boatman" into the mid-1990s.  Along the way, Art (along with Gerry Heffernan, Dewitt Whitman, and Dick Comtois) chartered the adult rowing program at Green Lake.  Art continues to row at GLC, and with numerous other crews in the region.

the Jean K. Lafromboise

Jean Lafromboise has been a valued friend and supporter of Green Lake Crew for the past decade.  She has been a valued friend and supporter of Northwest and national rowing for an even longer period.  Jean and Green lake Crew first took up with each other in 1990 when she donated to GLC one of the Pocock eight's that she had funded for the Goodwill Games.  That boat, the Michael S. Lafromboise III, was the hull in which the Green Lake Junior Men won the San Diego Crew Classic in 1991.

When GLC in 1996 dedicated the Frank Coyle in honor of USRowing's President (and former Green Lake junior rower and coach), that purchase would have been impossible without Jean's continuing support.  Jean has also been a longtime contributor to the UW's rowing program, and she is a primary figure in the success of the United States National Team as well.  We are pleased to be able to finally put her name on a Green Lake eight.

To Dave, Art, and Jean, thank you sincerely for all that you have meant to your many, many friends in the Green Lake Crew community!

1999 marks the fifty-first year of rowing on Green Lake.  GLC was established by the City in 1947 and was on the water for the first time a year later.  Today's Green Lake Crew is a partnership between the City of Seattle and the volunteers of the Rowing Advisory Council.  Support of friends such as you is essential for the program's continuing vitality.
